Our Founder

Mutyaba James Claude is a conservationist, ecopreneur, and environmental leader with a Bachelor of Social Sciences from Makerere University, Uganda’s leading university. Passionate about wildlife conservation and climate action, he has led initiatives that promote peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife, recognizing that thriving ecosystems are the foundation of biodiversity, tourism, and sustainable livelihoods.

In 2015, his commitment to community-led conservation earned him the prestigious Community Solutions Program Fellowship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, where he advanced his expertise in environmental leadership, sustainable development, and climate resilience.

My First Safari: The Moment Amethyst Wild Safaris Was Born

In 2023, while accompanying a team of German social workers on a community outreach mission, I visited Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for my first wildlife safari.

Walking through the bush with a ranger, I suddenly found myself just eight meters from a wild white rhino. My heart raced. Seeing such a magnificent animal so close was a life-changing experience—one that filled me with awe, respect, and a renewed commitment to conservation.

That single encounter transformed my perspective. I realized that responsible tourism is one of the most powerful tools for protecting wildlife, supporting local communities, and inspiring people to value nature.

That unforgettable moment became the inspiration behind Amethyst Wild Safaris.
